CharlesMing’s Profile

Posted by CharlesMing  Published in Time To Huat!

Name            : “CharlesMing”
Debut           : December 2007
Trained by    : Jay Chia (Phillips Securities T.R. and former Senior Trainer of ChartNexus)

CharlesMing is a private trader and first started investing in the stock market in 2007. Like many others, he went in blind, not knowing anything about fundamental analysis or technical analysis. As the bull cycle came towards an end, he realised he ended up buying at the top (does that sound familiar?). Despite doing a lot of FA (fundamental analysis) he realised that value meant nothing in a marketplace driven by human emotions.

He manages a private fund (in 6 digits) which began bleeding heavily as the days ticked by. He picked up Technical Analysis (TA) and worked very hard in understanding the concepts and exploring the tools and psychology used. CharlesMing believes that the right mindset is of utmost importance, far exceeding any form of analysis. Guided by La Papillon (bullythebear.blogspot.com) he practiced hard on charts and is very thankful to La Papillon for having guided him throughout the learning phase. CharlesMing emphasizes the need to be psychologically ready for any form of trading before one actually begins putting money into the stock market. He also believes that after trading hours are important. It’s the time where one prepares for the following day’s action which is key to a successful trade. A successful trader is calm, level headed, disciplined, and studious.

CharlesMing is neither bull nor bear. He rides on a trend and aims to make money regardless of the market direction and sentiment. He feels that the idea of trading is to not trade everyday, but to trade profitably. Not holding a position, is also seen as a position on its own. Mentored by Jay Chia (his remisier), CharlesMing uses different strategies for the various market conditions where it is always prudent not to buck against the trend (or risk being washed away by a tsunami!) but to ride along trend in the market with a belief that  Mr Market is the only one who is right and determines where he wants to go to. He also prefers to work for his money, rather than invest in a company/management. Why trust someone else with your own money?

His primary tools used in TA includes Moving Averages, Fibonnaci, MACD, and the most important of all, trend-lines. He has also incorporated the use of candlesticks to anticipate future movements- all of which is derived from the 3 fundamentals: Price, Pattern, Time.

As an ametuer trader, his main goals include refining his own trading system to suit each market condition, to keep losses at a minimum while riding on profits, and to give back to the society what he had been given.

Today, he guides his own group of friends in TA and is happy to see people around him make money, regardless of the technique used.

This blog serves as a personal record of the counters CharlesMing plans to trade in during the upcoming days. He is a graduate of the ChartNexus Technical Analysis course, and plans to take the Certified Technical Analyst (CTA) in the near future as a personal accomplishment.

His style and mission? He aims to not trade everyday, but to trade profitably.

Once again, CharlesMing is thankful and wishes to acknowledge the guidance he has received from La Papillon and Jay Chia. They are extremely helpful, patient and are very willing to teach without holding back anything.

CharlesMing will report his earnings for the FY (which ends Dec 31st) during the first week in January.
